Songs That Earn, Placed Where They’re Heard
Sunscope Music is a music publisher. We represent songwriters, composers and catalogs: we register their work, collect what it earns, and pitch it for film, TV and advertising. For productions and brands, we license our catalog in one simple deal.
How music makes money
Where Royalties Come From
A song earns every time it’s played, streamed, copied or placed in a picture, but only if it’s registered and someone is collecting.
| Income | What it is | Who collects it |
|---|---|---|
| Performance royalties | Paid when music is broadcast, streamed or performed in public, split 50/50 between the writer’s share and the publisher’s share | Performing rights organizations: ASCAP, BMI, SESAC |
| Mechanical royalties | Paid when music is reproduced, including streams and downloads | The MLC for U.S. digital use, plus the publisher |
| Sync fees | Paid when music is placed in film, TV, ads or games | The publisher, through a sync license |
| Master-use fees | Paid for use of a specific recording, alongside the sync fee | The owner of the recording |
For songwriters & composers
What We Do for Writers
- Registration: Songs and scores registered with the performing rights organizations, The MLC and the U.S. Copyright Office
- Royalty collection: Performance and mechanical royalties and sync fees, tracked and accounted
- Sync pitching: Songs pitched for placement in film, TV, advertising, trailers and games
- Administration: Cue sheets, split sheets, licensing paperwork and royalty statements
- Catalog development: Building long-term value in a catalog, the way we did with Lovelane Music Group
Deal types
Publishing Agreements
| Deal | Who owns the copyright | How income is typically shared |

| Administration | The writer keeps 100% | The publisher handles registration and collection for a fee, typically 10–20% |
| Co-publishing | Shared between the writer and the publisher | The writer typically receives 75% of income |
| Full publishing | Assigned to the publisher | Income splits 50/50 between writer and publisher |
Terms are set deal by deal. Every agreement is in writing and reviewed before signing.
